The SEAMEO Regional Centre for Archaeology and Fine Arts (SEAMEO SPAFA) promotes professional competence, awareness and preservation of cultural heritage, in the fields of archaeology and fine arts in Southeast Asia. It is a regional centre constituted in 1985 from the SEAMEO Project in Archaeology and Fine Arts, which provided the acronym ‘SPAFA’. The Centre is part of the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO), an international organization dedicated to promoting co-operation in education, science and culture in Southeast Asia.

Synopsis
The SPAFA Workshop on Ceramics of East and Southeast Asia was formally opened by The Hontb1e, the State Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Puan Hafsah Haji Harun at theRTM Auditorium, Kuching. The Minister pointed out the present trend in Southeast Asia towards affi.rmation of the national identity and racial cultural heritage. To this end, she expressed hope that the regional Workshop would help to achieve these goals. She also gave special mention to the honour given to the Sarawak Museum for having been chosen as venue of this regional activity of the SEAMEO Member States.
